DCC Welcomes Dr. Carl Smalls as VP, Finance & Administration

 Danville Community College (DCC) welcomed Dr. Carl B. Smalls as the new Vice President of Finance & Administration on Monday, September 11, 2023.

Dr. Carl B. Smalls boasts a robust career where he has served as an Associate Professor of Business Administration and Coordinator of Inclusion for Impact at Guilford Technical Community College since 2014. His previous roles include President, CEO, and founding partner of Morgan Smalls Sports Consultants, LLC, and Director of the Small Business Center and Incubator at Piedmont Community College.

 

His financial expertise shines through roles such as Managing Director and CEO of WILMOCO Capital Management, LLC, and as a financial lecturer for the NFL. His career also includes stints as a senior financial analyst at Ford Motor Company and a market analyst at Volkswagen of America, Inc.

 

Hailing from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Smalls has a passion for sports, both as a player and an avid spectator, as well as a profound love for literature. Most importantly, he is a proud father to Isaiah, an accomplished, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist.

 

While Dr. Smalls does not have a direct connection to Danville, his previous role as the Director of the Small Business Center for Piedmont Community College, which had campuses in nearby Roxboro and Yanceyville, North Carolina, acquainted him with the community. He's heard stories from clients who ventured to the "big city" of Danville, Virginia, adding a touch of familiarity to his arrival.

 

When asked about his feelings regarding this new role, Dr. Smalls exclaimed, "Elated! I'm very excited and look forward to helping take DCC to the next level. Dr. Wallace has assembled top talent at the cabinet level, and I can’t wait to join the team!"

 

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Smalls enjoys staying active at the YMCA and playing basketball. During his visits to Danville, he's become a regular at Fyahbon Jamaican Restaurant, conveniently located next door to the college.

 

Throughout his journey, Dr. Smalls has earned accolades, including recognition as one of Michigan's most powerful African Americans in 2003 by Corp! Magazine. He holds a Doctor of Education degree from the Kansas State University, John E. Roueche Center for Community College Leadership and has participated in programs at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

 

In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. Smalls is a sought-after speaker and author, covering a wide range of topics including leadership, finance, investments, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, collegiate sports, marketing, and financial services.

 

Dr. Carl B. Smalls' commitment to education, coupled with his extensive experience and boundless enthusiasm, makes him a valuable addition to Danville Community College administration.
