In a momentous occasion that heralds a new era of collaboration in education and workforce development, Danville Community College (DCC) and the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) have come together to sign three MOUs establishing three new training programs in South Boston. This exciting partnership is aimed at preparing individuals for promising careers in the healthcare and skilled trades sectors.

The signing ceremony, held on Thursday, November 2nd at the SVHEC Innovation Center, marks a significant milestone in the continued efforts of both institutions to provide accessible and high-quality education and training opportunities to the community.

The three MOUs will usher in new certified medical assistant training, emergency medical technician training, and maintenance mechanic training programs.

Each of these programs addresses critical workforce needs in the region and is designed to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge required for successful careers in these fields.

Certified Medical Assistant Training - This program will prepare students for roles as certified medical assistants, an essential position within healthcare settings. Graduates will be equipped with the skills to assist physicians and ensure the efficient operation of medical offices, clinics, and hospitals.

Emergency Medical Technician Training - The EMT program will train individuals to become emergency medical technicians, providing crucial pre-hospital emergency medical care. Graduates of this program will be poised to respond effectively to medical emergencies and save lives.

Maintenance Mechanic Training - The maintenance mechanic training program will equip students with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary for careers in industrial maintenance. Graduates will be able to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various machinery and equipment in manufacturing and industrial settings.

"These MOUs signify our shared commitment to addressing the workforce needs of our community” said Dr. Jerry Wallace, President of DCC. “By offering these pathways at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, we are enhancing access to high-demand training that can lead to meaningful, well-paying careers."

"This is another example of how DCC and SVHEC are successfully leveraging scarce resources to meet the region's workforce training needs. These new programs are in-demand and provide even more productive career avenues at the Center," said Dr. Betty Adams, SVHEC Executive Director.

The programs are expected to begin in the upcoming academic year, and enrollment information will be made available through both DCC and SVHEC.
