DCC Celebrates ‘Virginia College Application Week’ with Prizes, Scholarships, Open House

From November 15-19, Danville Community College (DCC) will be celebrating ‘Virginia College Application Week.’ The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia began this celebratory week seven years ago as a structured opportunity for support for high schools to assist seniors in applying to at least one college.

“Success in higher education begins with an application,” said Dr. Muriel Mickles, Interim President for DCC. “With the help of our high school career coaches and our staff in the admissions office, we are here to ensure that every high school student who needs support or a hand to hold during the application process receives that assistance and more.”

Five individuals who submit an application during the week of November 15 will be chosen to win a $100 gift certificate to the DCC Castle Bookstore. Applications can be completed online by high school students and adult learners alike by visiting danville.edu/apply.

Those who attend the college open house on November 17, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Student Center on the DCC campus will be entered to win a $500 scholarship. Interested participants should register for the event at danville.edu/openhouse.

“We’ve made the process quick and easy in an effort to eliminate as many barriers as possible,” said Dr. Mickles. “We encourage everyone who has been entertaining the thought of pursuing life-changing higher education to apply. It’s the most empowering step you can take.”

Registration for spring classes is open and students who apply now can immediately enroll for classes that begin on January 10, 2022.

“DCC is ready and waiting to not only support those who wish to apply, but also to walk hand-in-hand through enrolling in classes, sourcing financial aid, and ordering books,” said Dr. Mickles. “We are here every step of the way to take the confusion out of attending college.”
