Danville Community College (DCC) officially welcomed their newest advisory board member, Robert David, Sr., youth and gang violence prevention coordinator for the City of Danville, at their June 15th meeting.

A native of Rockingham, North Carolina, David received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Catawba College and his Master of Arts in Professional and Addiction Counseling from Grand Canyon University. David is also a licensed addiction counselor in the state of North Carolina and is the 2020 recipient of the Franklin Milton Thrasher Award given by the National Gang Crime Research Center for his accomplishments in gang prevention and intervention.

“I originally came to Danville to expand my business, but when I saw that the city was seeking a Youth and Gang Violence Prevention Coordinator, I knew that I had a chance to really impact the lives of the people who live here,” said David. “It has been a wonderful opportunity to make a difference.”

As a part of David’s role, he understands the importance of higher education in the community and in the lives of those it touches.

“Education is an equalizer that not only impacts individuals, but the city of Danville, as well,” said David.  “Education increases the individual’s ability to have a greater vision for their life. The belief that life could be better synergistically impacts how individuals engage with their community. An educated and engaged community attracts companies which increases growth and economic development.”

Now, David is focusing on serving the community further by sitting on the Danville Community College Advisory Board.

“Being a part of the DCC board is important to me because my life’s work has been about empowering people to achieve their goals,” said David.  “Being a board member affords me the opportunity to be connected to those that aspire to improve their lives by attending college. I will be part of their vision as I assist the president of DCC and the board in directing the college toward success.”
