About the Library

Location

The Mary M. Barksdale Library is located in the upper level of the Whittington W. Clement Learning Resources Center. This large, multipurpose area provides instructional support and learning resources for the educational and workforce training programs of the Danville Community College.  Visitor parking is available in all parking lots.  Access is available from the upper level doors.

Mission and Purpose

The Library will be an innovative, inspiring, and vital component in the academic life of the College.  The Library promotes the knowledge of and use of information resources by students, faculty, and the community.  The Library acquires and provides access to a collection of information resources.  The Library provides access for students to computer technology and software applications useful in their academic pursuit.

The Mary M. Barksdale Library has books in our print collection, and DVDs and CDs. The library also subscribes to journals, magazines, and newspapers in our print (paper) periodical collection, found in the Periodicals Room. The Library also has atlases and maps.

Over 30 computers in the Library provide access to the Internet. In addition to using these computers to search on the Internet, these stations can also be used to access the Online Catalog, Canvas, the Student Information System, and Student Email. Students can also use these computers to access Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access. Students can also access the Internet on their laptops by using DCC’s wireless network. Please note that playing games is NOT permitted on computers in the Library.

Printing

One printer serves all the computers in the Library. Printing in the Library is free and no limit is placed on the number of pages that students print. The printers are set to print on both sides of the page, in an effort to go “green” and conserve paper. Please use the printers wisely and do not waste paper and ink!

    Photocopying

    The Barksdale Library provides one photocopier.  We charge $0.10 / page for black and white copies and $0.25 / page for color copies.  Payment can only be made with cash.

    Anatomy & Physiology Lab Area

    Anatomy models are found in the Periodicals Room.  The Biology faculty place slides on reserve, and microscopes are in this room for students to use.  Many study sessions with Tutors take place in this room.   The Anatomy and Physiology instructors have a variety of items on reserve, including a skeleton, bones, and anatomical models, such as the eye, the ear, the heart, etc. All of these items are located in the Periodicals Room. A sign-in sheet is available in the Periodicals Room for students to indicate the items they are using.
