Drafting and Design Student and Professor Projects

The DCC Drafting and Design department works on a variety of projects for the community and for DCC. Here are some of our most successful projects.

DCC Virtual Campus Tour (Click Here!)

The drafting department began development of an online tour of our campus in 2009. Students worked to create a few buildings each summer semester and we finished the last building in the Summer of 2012. This project was started by Elizabeth Manzanares, and, thanks to several other students, you can now walk the campus from your computer.

Students in these programs are also working in a variety of ways to assist with the next Habitat for Humanity build. We have held a fundraiser at Lowes and collected enough money to purchase all the 2 x 4's needed to build all the interior and exterior walls. The student in the picture below, Thomas Conner, has drawn the plans for the Habitat house for which the program is raising money.

Drafting and Design student takes third place in Bus Stop Design Challenge

Drafting and Design students work on a variety of projects for local business, industry, and the city of Danville. Want to see what our students have been doing outside of class?

Jessica Moran - designed and drew a bathhouse for Camp Selah Ministries in Sutherlin, VA after theirs was destroyed by a fire. Her design is on the camp web site.

Jessica also took third place in a bus stop design contest. She competed against professional draftsmen and engineers to develop a music themed bus stop.

Trebuchets

Current students, not to be outdone by last year's class, create a smaller but effective trebuchet. Several cantaloupes were destroyed while testing the apparatus.

DCC's Student Center

DCC began construction of a new student center in 2009. The drawing of the student center was drawn in Google Sketchup by an architectural firm. The animation was created by Professor Huffman so students and faculty could see the building before construction begins. You can now visit our student center virtually and in person!
