The Early Childhood Development Career Studies Certificate is designed for students who plan to work with children from birth through age eight years using developmentally appropriate practices.  The occupational titles represent examples of possible employment opportunities:  Child Care Center Teacher Assistant, Recreation Leader or Aide, or Substitute Teacher.

Certain criminal convictions will prohibit employment in all licensed child care settings. Students convicted of any felony or any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude/barrier crimes do not qualify for the Early Childhood Program at DCC. The lab facilities will not allow students to complete internship hours and students will not be able to meet the internship requirements for graduation.

Any student entering the program who has committed illegal offenses other than minor traffic violations should discuss these matters with the program coordinator for clarification. Also, students will be required to complete full criminal background tests and a TB test at their own cost.
